Facebook reveals 40 "most shared articles" of 2011

Social networking giant Facebook has revealed a list of 40 "most shared articles" of 2011 in the US.

The list includes stories, photo galleries and videos ranging from cute to thought provoking pieces, and represent the type of news people have been sharing and discovering with friends in 2011.

The most popular link for readers was a series of satellite photographs of Japan's earthquake and tsunami in March, published by The New York Times.
