EBay will give consumers an incentive to shop in stores after Amazon.com came under fire last week for offering shoppers a discount to do the opposite.
EBay will give customers a $10 discount that can be used in stores operated by certain retailers after they spend $100 online, the San Jose company said Friday. Shoppers must buy online from Toys R Us, Dick's Sporting Goods or Aeropostale using eBay's PayPal payment service. The promotion began Friday and ends Monday.
Amazon drew criticism from Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, and the American Booksellers Association for offering a 5 percent discount to entice people to use a new mobile app that compares prices with physical stores.
